Hello wonderful supporters of nuclear power,
We're very sad to end this petition and to have had to witness German leadership do the wrong thing on nuclear yet again, and now be forced to burn lignite coal to keep the lights on and homes warm.
This petition is over but the fight to have nuclear power deemed "clean" and included as a legitimate clean energy partner in global efforts to reduce carbon emissions goes on. As recently as two weeks ago, this happened in North Carolina (See: journalnow.com/news/local/clean-nuclear-power-nc-legislature-says-yes-with-veto-override/article_ca2c6d48-67a6-11ee-9694-b388beef1988.html).
We are working to build a broader coalition of groups that demand just this: that nuclear and renewables advocates prioritize emissions reductions and work together. We have a big enough fight on our hands trying to shut down fossil fuel plants; bickering amongst ourselves over our preferred technologies is a luxury we can't afford. Climate is already an existential threat to humanity and we need to be smarter about how we use the little time we have left to address this.
Most likely you already know this and are working towards this goal in your own way or through another organization. If so, I encourage you to join the Climate Coalition to collaborate on building a bigger coalition of nuclear-inclusive climate advocates. Consider signing up your organization to the Climate Coalition and help us speak sense to those climate groups opposing nuclear power. You can do so at this link: climatecoalition.org/join-the-coalition/
Thank you again for your support of this petition!
WIth hope for the future,
Valerie and all
