The EU Commission has postponed its plans to introduce mandatory searches of communications and cloud data for all providers and platforms. A new lecture can probably be expected on March 8. And a lot can happen until then. On the one hand, the German government, for example, has agreed in its coalition agreement to support a right to encryption – which may change the balance in Brussels. On the other hand, officials like the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson do not stop using the abuse imagery as a moral crowbar, just as if the discussion about Apple's CSAM plans never existed. So we must be prepared for a prolonged public debate that is far from reaching its climax. That's why we are extending the signing period of this open letter until the end of 2022.
