Petition is addressed to: Mayor of Riverside, California Patricia Lock Dawson
There is a need for local musicians to showcase their talents in Riverside, City of Arts and Innovation. Fret's Music is a small, independently owned music store trying to provide the local music scene a place to perform. We are currently trying to get the proper permits to provide a safe, DIY friendly venue that this city needs. Riverside, City of Arts and Innovation, is refusing to let us even file the permit because we are in airport zoning, which doesn't allow gatherings or assemblies. We are asking for either an exemption or to get the zoning changed.
Reason
There is an enormous demand for local musicians to showcase their art. In the 5 short months we've been open we've had numerous artists perform at Fret's and we had planned months of shows for the future. The popularity of these shows implies Riverside, City of Arts and Innovation is sorely lacking a small, all ages venue that lets anyone from the music community be heard.

on 27 Feb 2025Do to everyone's support the City of Riverside has given us the green light to do shows again at Fret's! No permit required! They gave us a few rules we need to enforce going forward, but shows and events can now officially resume at Fret's! We want to give a huge thank you to every one who signed the petition and called or wrote our city officials. This would not have moved as swiftly or efficiently...show moreDo to everyone's support the City of Riverside has given us the green light to do shows again at Fret's! No permit required!
