Online gambling and sports betting across Ontario have seen a sharp increase in popularity over the past year, but there have been some security challenges. Last month, BetMGM informed betters in the provinces that it had discovered a data leak and may have accessed users' personal information. Name, contact, etc. could have been exposed. 슬롯머신

According to the betting company's press release, the breach occurred somewhere in May 2022, just a month after the company debuted in the provincial iGaming market. However, the company found the breach on November 28, 2022, and shared that there was no evidence that user passwords or funds were accessed through hacking.

Cybersecurity expert Ritesh Kotak recently shared his thoughts on cyberattacks. He said any type of hacking is dangerous because personally identifiable information can be used by hackers. In his words, after such online leaks and data leaks, it is almost impossible to reverse the damage done to individuals.

Currently, BetMGM has yet to reveal the number of users whose information was stolen. However, it should be noted that a prominent hacker has published on the Dark Web and is known to be selling stolen data from more than 1.5 million customers in several North American jurisdictions. These included New Jersey, Michigan, West Virginia, and Ontario.

Meanwhile, the Information Privacy Commission noted that it received reports of violations from game companies. Currently, the report is under review and the next step will be evaluated. A spokesman for the office commented that the organization is currently not in a position to provide additional details on the matter.

Ontario's Alcohol and Game Commission commented that it was monitoring the incident and was reviewing the company's systems, policies and practices as it vowed to protect player information. Finally, BetMGM shared that it is working with law enforcement agencies and taking steps to strengthen security. The company also warned players to review account statements and monitor free credit reports.

In early December 2022, AGCO made a decision prohibiting betting on Ultimate Fighting Championship games. Therefore, it required all casino, lottery, and game operators registered in the province to stop offering and receiving bets on UFC. The decision came after regulators recently heard from UFC insiders about a potential betting-related incident.

Earlier in October 2022, the regulator published a discussion paper to collect investor feedback on potential regulatory risks associated with the PR partnership. This paper is intended to gather opinions on the possibility of regulatory action by regulators to prohibit the creation of temporary or permanent physical locations, and the purpose of the place is to promote and facilitate betting.
