Petition is addressed to: Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, Greece; Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC), European Commission; Educational Authorities in Other EU Member States.

We, the consortium behind the initiative "Motivating Teachers 4 Europe (MOTIVATE)", ask for your support in recognizing and integrating this project into the educational framework in Greece and Europe. MOTIVATE aims to enrich teaching and students' understanding of the European Union through innovative educational strategies and resources developed by our consortium.
Specifically, we are asking for support:

  • The Greek Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs to officially recognize the MOTIVATE project and facilitate its integration into the Greek education system, as well as to promote its methods and materials in Greek schools.
  • The European Commission's Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) to support the dissemination of MOTIVATE educational materials and methods in EU Member States and to promote their adoption in national curricula in order to foster a coherent and informed European citizenship.

Your support will enable educators to enrich EU education and inspire future generations for a united and well-informed Europe.

Reason

The petition "Motivating Teachers 4 Europe (MOTIVATE)" is important for several reasons:

  • Improving EU education aims to improve the quality and depth of EU education in schools. Providing teachers with innovative tools and methods ensures that students understand the EU, its values, how it works, and its relevance to their lives. This education is crucial for developing informed citizens who can participate meaningfully in the EU's democratic processes.
  • Promoting European identity: The initiative aims to foster a sense of European identity among young people. By learning about the EU's history, institutions, and policies, students can appreciate the common values and goals that unite citizens in the different member states. This sense of belonging is crucial for the cohesion and future of the European Union.
  • Empowering educators/teachers: Teachers play a crucial role in shaping students' perceptions and knowledge of the world. This petition argues for equipping them with the necessary resources and training to teach EU issues effectively, improving their ability to inspire and educate the next generation of Europeans.
  • Promoting informed citizenship: In a time of misinformation and complex geopolitical challenges, educating young people about the EU gives them the knowledge to evaluate information and make informed decisions critically. This is essential for the well-being of democratic societies and the effective participation of citizens in governance processes.
  • Building a cohesive Europe: Understanding the role and influence of the European Union promotes unity among member states. Educated people are more likely to support and contribute to the EU's goals, including peace, stability, and prosperity across the continent.
  • Political integration and support: By calling on the Greek Ministry of Education and the European education authorities to support and integrate the MOTIVATE initiative, the petition aims to institutionalize quality EU education. This will ensure that the project's benefits are widespread, reach many students, and have a lasting impact.
