NO to ON SHORE Wind Farms in Magliano in Toscana

Sign this petition to make the voice of a territory heard, which, after the historical plagues of malaria and depopulation, is determinedly and diligently building a present and a future based on respect for the environment, agritourism, agriculture specialized in vineyards and olive groves, and responsible tourism.

The President of the Tuscany Region and all the mayors of the area have already expressed their opposition to the project. However, statements must be followed by concrete actions from the ministry and regional offices responsible for the energy transition. We are addressing both of them.

Maremma is a land of sun, not wind. The data collected since 2006 by the Region shows that the areas where the 13 towers, 200 meters high (much taller than the Montalto di Castro chimney), would be built have a medium-low wind potential (see the results of the data processed by Wind GIS of the Tuscany Region: http://159.213.57.103/lamma-webgis/pdf/WIND-GIS-Analisi_dei_risultati.pdf).

So, why are wind park developers targeting this territory? Clearly, building on gentle hills and near communication routes is cheaper. For them, the landscape is not a cost!

We cannot allow this to happen and we want to make our voice heard.

The wind farm threatens an area that is currently unspoiled, rich in biodiversity, agritourisms, DOP vineyards, and IGP olive groves. Furthermore, it would compromise a unique landscape, visible from the towns of Magliano in Toscana and Montiano, which characterizes and unites an entire community. 
The economic sustainability of agritourism businesses would be irreparably undermined, leading to the risk of abandonment and desertification of a territory that thrives on its beauty.

We find it inconceivable that in the entire Tuscany Region, more sustainable alternatives cannot be found, such as rooftops of industrial buildings, disused or underused industrial areas, old quarries, and strips already covered by infrastructure, which could provide suitable areas for photovoltaic and wind production.

The draft Regional Law of Tuscany has identified over 60,000 hectares of areas suitable for photovoltaic production, on which procedures will be accelerated. These areas alone are sufficient to cover more than ten times the region's additional energy needs from renewable sources!

We ask the competent authorities to block the Magliano in Tuscany Wind Farm project with a clear, firm, and unconditional opinion. This project would irreparably devastate a unique landscape, from the hills to the sea of Argentario, which represents the history and identity of the people who live in this territory. The energy transition must be implemented intelligently, and there are certainly less invasive ways to achieve the renewable energy goals for Tuscany.
